A Day at Soundview Prep
MORNING MEETING, 8:10 a.m.
Every weekday, Soundview students gather in the cafeteria to begin school at Morning Meeting, which is usually led by the Head of School. Topics circle around how to learn effectively, current events, and how to be a positive global citizen. Announcements about clubs, classes, and athletics are a common end to Morning Meetings.
PERIOD ONE, 8:25 a.m.
Period one is the first 50-minute period of the day. For Upper School students, first period might be a science lab, Calculus, Italian III or AP European History, while a Middle Schooler might head to Language Arts, or Ancient History. Some have a study hall, and can be seen with books or laptops studying for an exam. Three more periods follow before lunch.
LUNCH, 12:05 p.m.
Soundview Students gather for lunch in the cafeteria. If the weather is nice, students and teachers have lunch outdoors. A favorite Soundview privilege for Juniors and Seniors is to visit neighboring food establishments to buy lunch; other students prefer to bring lunch from home, or purchase a nutritious meal delivered to school via our lunch caterer. Often clubs meet during lunch: the Language Club, for instance, might be enjoying a Spanish or Italian lunch, while the Sewing Club knits something special for a family member. And unless it’s pouring (or snowing), the sounds of dribbling basketballs and touch football games echo across the lawn.
BACK TO CLASS, 12:55 p.m.
Soundview Students return to class for three more periods.
END OF THE DAY, 3:35 p.m.
The school day draws to a close, and students head for home or team practice.
