Sports and Activities

As an important part of the educational experience, Soundview offers an array of extra-curricular activities through which students explore particular interests, learn to work effectively with others, and develop leadership abilities. Certain of these activities are also available as elective courses (for credit), some are conducted in tandem with standard subjects, and others are formed in response to student interests.

The SPS extra-curricular athletic program is growing dramatically. The Soundview Bulldog co-ed soccer team is complemented by both boys’ and girls’ basketball teams and by a co-ed softball team. These teams play other independent schools at our off-site “home” facility or at the location of the competing team. In addition, golf and ski clubs offer students the opportunity to learn and enjoy these outdoor activities in a non-competitive setting.

All students in the Upper School participate in our Community Service Program, which sends them in small groups to work with local organizations sponsoring projects for young children, the aged, or the needy. We believe that community involvement fosters a sense of social responsibility and equips students to engage effectively in the world around them.

Extra-curricular life at Soundview does not stop here: some of the other annual activities comprise the Back-to-School Picnic; the Student/Faculty Softball Tournament; the all-School Talent Show; the Graduation Banquet; and Texas Day, in honor of our headmaster’s heritage. Students also participate in events such as Parents’ Night, the Book Fair, and various open houses. Rarely does an occasion occur when students are not present in some capacity.
