Spring Gala & Auction Slated for Sunday, March 14, 2010
Mark your calendars now and save the date of Sunday, March 14 for Soundview’s Spring Gala & Auction. A parent committee is hard at work planning the event—the School’s main fundraising event of the year—which will be held at the elegant, turn-of-the-century mansion and noted French restaurant Le Chateau in South Salem, as it has been for the past four years. The Gala, which drew over 100 parents and alumni families last year, will feature cocktails and hors d’oeuvres followed by a four-course gourmet dinner, with an array of items in both live and silent auctions to tempt even the hardest-to-please guests.
A sneak preview of auction items obtained so far: if last year is any indication, we expect lively bidding on two items that drew out the competitive streak is several bidders last year: dinner for twelve with Headmaster and Assistant Head at the home of Ms. Ivanyi, prepared by a professional chef; and an afternoon at the movies with Mr. Mentz. These items may be rivaled this year, however, by two new items: first, students will have a unique opportunity this year: to be headmaster for a day! And second, parents, if you envy your student for those fascinating New York New York trips, get your own inside tour of the Big Apple with New York New York guide and English teacher Ms. Hayes (bonus: top the tour off with a cocktail at a New York watering spot)! You might want to combine this with a visit to Saturday Night Live and/or a stay at a Soundview family’s New York pied-a-terre with tickets to a Broadway show. But if a New York winter is getting you down, get ready to bid on a 3-bedroom beachfront condo at Naples Cay in Florida with a spectacular view of the bay and all the amenities. If you’d rather wait until summer, you might prefer a week at a lakeside house in Maine. Coming attractions: sports seats, free driving lessons for your students, a computer tune-up and lessons, a visit to your book group by an author and more. Keep tuned!
In the meantime, the committee is looking for more auction items, especially anything a little unusual such as hard-to-obtain sports or theater tickets, dinner for two at your favorite restaurant, mileage on an airline, a special artwork or craft, a beauty session at a spa… or a few lessons in an area of your own expertise! If you have something to donate or an idea you would like to share, please contact Linda S. Rae at School (Lsrae@soundviewprep.org).
Proceeds from this one and only fundraising event for Soundview will be used to help the school to cover its operating costs.
