Spring Gala & Auction Held on March 11

The School’s only and all-important fundraiser was held this year at the historic Sunningdale Country Club in Scarsdale, NY.

The Gala, which traditionally drew over 100 parents and alumni families in support of the School, featured an elegant and fun evening with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, a gourmet dinner, a raffle, a silent auction and, last but not least, a live auction with Soundview’s favorite auctioneer, Mr. Mentz.

This is the first time that the Gala was held at Sunningdale Country Club, an opportunity made possible by the Klein family.  The Club features a stunning baronial hall, built in the 1920’s, where the silent auction will be held, and elegant dining rooms for dinner and the live auction. The Club is noted for its fine cuisine.

Graduation 2011

On Saturday, June 11, the largest graduating class in Soundview’s history received their diplomas in a ceremony marking the culmination of their years at the School. On that day, the 21 seniors received their diplomas from Mr. Hearn, as family members, faculty and staff looked on. The commencement exercises took place under a tent by the pond, with Carnegie Hall musicians Vladimir Morgovsky, cello, Marrianna Morgovsky, violin, and Laura George, flute, providing a musical background. Light refreshments were served after the ceremony, hosted by the 11thgrade families.

In keeping with Soundview tradition, any senior who wishes may address the audience, and Sean Cohan, Ellie Fishel, Lily Hudson, Oliver Jean-Pierre, Jonah Kaufman, Rose Koocher, Tanner Lewis, Matthew Pappalardo, Wilhelmina Ryan and Robert Santoli each seized the opportunity to thank parents, teachers, administrators and friends. Mr. Hearn then spoke about each graduate in turn. Many thanks to 11th grade parents Jennifer Lee and Catherine Harty for organizing the event!

The graduation was preceded by another Soundview tradition: on the evening of Thursday, June 9, Soundview held its traditional Graduation Banquet at the Shore Club in Larchmont. It is an opportunity for the entire Soundview community – students, families, faculty and staff – to join in celebration of the outgoing seniors, and to be introduced to the incoming senior class.

Texas Day 2011
Friday, May 27 was Texas Day, that traditional Soundview event that brings together the community of students, parents, teachers, staff and alumni to enjoy a delicious picnic, games and entertainment. This year, there were some new features: a “coffee house” that was opened by a performance by Soundview’s chorus and concluded by the Soundview Players’ “Salute to the Seniors,” with music, poetry and more in between!

Middle School students presented a Science Fair from 11:00 to noon, and the Spring Art Show, which opened earlier this spring in the Chapel, continued to attract visitors all afternoon.

Many thanks to Dean Koocher for once again organizing the event, and to the many other parents for contributing food and beverages!
